My friend @adamwelz.wild, author of

explained to me how forests full of trees, once metrics for a healthy ecosystem, have become controversial. Trees(dark, massive) absorb light and transform radiation into thermal energy. Smaller plants, like grasses, reflect light and are more resilient when fires torch the earth. The carbon stored in their roots is more stable than the carbon in trees.

Planting trees for the sake of it will not necessarily save you from the oven.

I made this forest scene with a large format camera whose colour rendition is far less accurate than my equivalent digital camera's. The slight defamiliarisation favours the work, which is more dank and heady by comparison.

When making decisions on how to structure the subject matter in the frame, I remember trying to use the convolutions at the organizing principle, under the canopy competition rules.
