At a point I was traveling all over Africa on assignments for magazines; stuck in traffic, paying minor bribes and constantly having to avoid compromising the standards I'd set for myself in other ways.

This photo was taken in a crap taxi en route to Lusaka International Airport. More often than not these exit taxi rides were an exhale after supreme hustles in extreme heat.

In the background, we see the monument(Golden Needles) to the third Conference of Non-Aligned Countries, held in Lusaka in 1970 - corner Haile Selassie Ave and Independence Ave. The conference was an attempt on the oart of Third Wold Coutries to assert themselves in the face of Global Polarisation pre Cold War 1.
