Approaching the end of a movie called ‘Drive My Car,’ an adaptation of a Murakami short story of the same name.
The film captures Murakami’s airless, dreamlike mood through directorial tone and cinematography devoid of effect and a spare soundtrack.
In the clip, the film’s main character is speaking to his acting protege, who has slept with his wife shortly before his wife. Both men secretly harbour this knowledge.
The mock bedroom in which the framed photo hangs reminded me of a Murakami featuring uncanny incompleteness.
Hang this one above your bed.
