Anthony Bourdain, NYC, 2003
In 2003, I traveled from Berlin to NYC to photograph various chefs, including Anthony Bourdain, at Brasserie Les Halles.
Food and food personalities are not my thing. I regard recipes as rough guides, at best, so it was surprising that my friend Kate, who'd organised the trip, was rendered starstruck and speechless by Brother Bourdain.
'Kate... ask him another question...'
The hour or so that I spent photographing him left me with a sense of fulfillment.
Like, I came a long way to photograph you, stranger, and you rose to the occasion with your intelligence, generosity of spirit, sex appeal, and mischievousness. I see you.
