Muizenberg, 18/4/2021
These beachgoers apprehended me, and I was compelled to make portraits of them as they rearranged themselves with increasing fervour and speed. Of all the photos in this sequence, this one best casts the exuberance of the moment and my compositional sense into a weightless sliver.
Self-presentation is a delicate act, and I'm happy to have provided the space for unfettered enthusiasm. Figuration is in, and it should never leave.
There are very few public spaces in Cape Town where this sort of interaction can unfold; Muizenberg is one of them.
