Autechre, my all-time favourite band, used a photo of the soft, chalky Cappadochian landscape of lavas, ignimbrites, and pyroclastic deposits for their album AMBER's cover art.
Drifting silently and slowly over this part of Turkey in 2013, I imagined the Byzantine Christians carving and hollowing out cells and cavernous chambers in the rock from which to praise their god and flee persecution, the inadvertent net result of which is acoustically perfect listening rooms.
I won't forget it in a hurry.
