A 10cm shift in the lens position can make a big difference when the scene is dominated by complicated sets of geometric shapes, and the aim is to compress, expand, and overlay the shapes to play with depth. A small pop of flash eradicates shadows and flatten the square bars, further confusing the sense of depth. I also waited for the sun to pass behind some thin clouds to even the photograph's tones.
